Anaerobic Washed Process Red Bourbon produced in Rwanda by Emmanuel Rusatira.
Vibrant and aromatic, with juicy strawberry and watermelon complemented by delicate floral notes, bright citrus, and a soft lactic character. The cup is expressive and fruit-forward, combining layered sweetness with refined florality and a clean, lingering finish.
This coffee comes from Nyaruguru in southern Rwanda, within the Kizi Rift coffee-growing region. The cherries are delivered by more than 850 local smallholder producers to Fugi Washing Station, operated by Emmanuel Rusatira and Baho Coffee. Farms in the surrounding mountains sit between approximately 1,550 and 1,835 meters above sea level, where coffee is predominantly cultivated on a small scale.
At Fugi, ripe cherries are carefully sorted before undergoing anaerobic fermentation while still intact. The cherries are then pulped, followed by aerobic fermentation, washing, and outdoor drying. This combined fermentation approach develops the coffee’s expressive fruit character while retaining the clarity associated with a washed process.
The result is a vibrant and distinctive expression of Nyaruguru. Juicy, floral, and sweet, combining strawberry and watermelon with bright citrus and a delicate lactic character.
